“Feed the Mind • Feed the Tummy” Initiative
Our "Feed the Mind • Feed the Tummy" Initiative was born from one clear reality: children cannot learn when they are hungry. We met students who thrived academically during the week but struggled on weekends and school breaks when cafeteria meals stopped. Their grades, moods, and focus showed it.
Through this initiative, we serve warm, balanced evening meals for kids and families, paired with reading time, homework help, and enrichment activities. Support continues on weekends, holidays, summer, and teacher in-service days-those stretches of the year when school kitchens are closed but appetites are not. One family shared that these meals carried them through a layoff, keeping their children healthy and engaged in learning.
For households facing sudden hardship, our on-site emergency food pantry provides additional groceries. Every plate served is also an invitation: sit down, breathe, let us help with both the hunger in the stomach and the hunger to grow, learn, and feel secure.
